Memory Text: Genesis 2:24-25 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Westminster Shorter Catechism 77: What is required in the Ninth Commandment? The Ninth Commandment requires the maintaining and promoting of truth between man and man, and of our own and our neighbor‘s good name, especially in witness-bearing.
Monday: Gen 1:27, 2:18-25. One of the roots of transgenderism is a prioritization of the psychological (mind, feelings) over the biological (body). Can you think of an ad or movie that promotes this? How would you critique “you need to follow your heart,” “be true to yourself” (Jer 17:9, Mt 15:19, Rom 3:13)? Pray for wariness to this kind of thinking in yourself and others.
Tuesday: Gen 1:27, 2:18-25. Another root of transgenderism is a downplaying of external authority. Are we our own authority (Ex 20:2-3, 12, Acts 5:29, James 4:7)? Is there a way we are to submit to God with respect to our biology, the gender he designed us with? To what degree are we to submit to social expectations?
Wednesday: Gen 1:27, 2:18-25. Rank individualism is another ingredient undergirding transgenderism. How would you biblically critique “I am master of my fate, captain of my soul” (e.g. Dan 4:30f, Lk 12:20-25, James 4:13-16)? How can you (and we as a church) lean hard against individualism, thinking and acting independently?
Thursday: Gen 1:27, 2:18-25. Transgenderism believes gender is fluid, and that there are more than 2 genders. What does Gen 1:27 say? According to Gen 1:27, 2:22, 24 and Mk 10:7-12, can one’s biological gender be separated from ones sex (male or female), and one’s sexuality (2:22)? How does Jesus offer hope, forgiveness, and endurance in such struggles?
Friday: Gen 1:27, 2:18-25. What are some biblical principles for thinking about, and dealing with transgender folks (Gen 1:27, Eph 4:15, 2, 1 Cor 6:11, Mk 12:31, Gal 6:10). Speaking and standing for biblical truth may be costly and calls for courage. Let us entrust ourselves to our faithful Father.
Saturday: Gen 3:1-7. What was the core temptation? What are some of the sins here?
